What happens at a pelvic physiotherapy appointment?

The assessment includes a detailed history of your symptoms and concerns, followed by a physical assessment of your posture, back, abdomen and if indicated perform an internal pelvic examination to assess your pelvic floor muscles.

What do you wear to a pelvic floor physiotherapy assessment?

Comfortable clothes are encouraged. If you need specific exercise clothes, your therapist will let you know. If an internal exam is required during your visit, you may be asked to disrobe from the waist down stop.

I have had these symptoms for years, can physiotherapy still help me?

Yes, physiotherapy can still help you regardless of how long you've had your symptoms. The body has the ability to change at any stage of life no matter how long you've had your symptoms. It may take a little longer to see results, but people do get better.

What if I'm already doing my pelvic floor exercises and it is not helping. How will physiotherapy be able to help?

We know that many men and women do not perform their pelvic floor exercises correctly, so having an assessment to ensure that you are performing them correctly is essential for successful outcome. A pelvic physiotherapist will focus not on just squeezing your pelvic floor, but to coordinate it with your breathing and the rest of your body and teach you how to incorporate it with everyday activities and exercises to allow you to move better.
